Hello & Howdy!
I’m so glad you’re here. The paper and paint have been flying over here at Moss Cottage for the last month and in a few weeks I expect a paper storm to arrive at your house too. I hope you’re ready!
In the meantime, think of this as our summer school classroom. Come on in and make yourself at home. The cocktails will be served soon!
Let me tell you a bit about my idea for SEWN. First of all I love patterns. You know that already. Then there’s my love affair with paper. A couple of years ago I made, what I called, pinwheels that I shared on my blog. Then I began sewing more paper together and making lanterns. Fast forward to this summer when I began putting together my most recent visual journal. I spontaneously grabbed a giant pinwheel I’d made and glued it to the back cover. KERPOW! an idea was born.
Then I started asking what if. As in, what if I made more paper “fabric” and covered more books. What if I made other things with the paper fabric, like more lanterns. What if I traced shapes onto the “fabric” and sewed them together. What if I dove headfirst into all the old vintage postcards I bring back from travels and sewed them together? What if I made more pretty things from paper “fabric” to hang in the window and catch the summer sunshine? What if I cut up a bunch of handpainted paper and mixed it with other patterns of paper and sewed them together? So I started to experiment. And SEWN was born. This summer I want to share all of that paint, pattern, color, and sewing with you. Why? Just one reason. IT’S FUN!
